City Police on Monday confirmed the death of CPM leader W R Varadarajan by matching fingerprints, in addition to a positive identification by the leader’s wife on Sunday. Varadarajan’s body was found in a lake in Porur on February 13, two days after he disappeared from his home.“The identity of the body has been confirmed. The fingerprints samples have tallied,’’ said ACP (Law and Order) Shakeel Akhtar.
He said the results of the DNA tests were awaited. On Sunday, Varadarajan’s wife Saraswathy had identified his highly-decomposed body but the CPM chose to play it safe, saying only forensic and DNA tests would confirm whether the body was Varadarajan’s. A postmortem was conducted and the report would be available in a few days, Shakeel added.
