The Tamil Nadu government has launched a statewide search for missing CPM leader WR Vardarajan, who was recently removed from all party positions. The Tamil Nadu police have fanned out across the state to trace Varadarajan, who's been missing since February 11.
Varadarajan is a Central Committee member and secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). The Central Committee has stripped him of all his party positions including his membership in the CPM Central Committee following complaints of misconduct.
The CPM leader's wife had complained to the party about his "inappropriate behaviour" and the party's disciplinary committee found his behaviour "unbecoming of a Communist leader..." But the party had not made its decision public since it wanted to tell its local units first.
