Chennai medico Adapa Karthik has topped the Civil Services Examination, 2007, while Delhi School of Economics post-graduate Ashima Jain secured the highest rank among women out of the 734 who made it to the most sought after services.
Seven women are among the top 20 in the list of successful candidates, who include 286 from the general category.
OBCs account for 266 candidates while 128 belong to Scheduled Castes and 54 to Scheduled Tribes, an official release said tonight.
Karthik is an MBBS doctor from Chennai while Supreet Singh Gulati is an engineer from IIT, Madras. Jain has secured an overall seventh rank.
Out of the 20 top rankers, seven are from engineering background while three are medicos. Interestingly all the 20 toppers took their examinations in English.
A total of 3,27,683 candidates had applied for this examination. While 1,61,469 candidates appeared for the preliminary examinations, 9,266 candidates qualified for the mains and of them 1,886 were selected for the personality test.
Of the successful candidates, selected for appointment to the IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services, 580 are men and 154 women.
The selected candidates include 22 physically challenged.
