How to reach Chennai
By Air
Chennai’s Anna International airport is on many international air routes. Flights from Bahrain, Dubai, Jeddah,  Muscat, London, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Colombo land at Anna airport.  Chennai is a major stop in the domestic circuit and all the domestic carriers service Kamraj National Airport. From the airport you could take a prepaid taxi or auto rickshaw to your hotel or downtown.

By Rail

Southbound trains are exceptionally clean though it would take a (good) while longer than by air. Several trains run from the  east, west and north to the main railway station, Chennai Central. Trains from Egmore Station will take you to places in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Kerala. From both stations you can take a taxi, auto rickshaw or bus to your destination in the city.

By Road
Chennai is well networked by road and you could drive in conveniently and comfortably by your own or a rented car.

Tourist Offices

Govt Tourist Offices and Information Centres are thoughtfully sprinkled across the city, especially at the airports and railway stations.Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, Head Office, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Chennai-4 Tel: 8545684, 8547346 Fax: 8546620

When to Go

Days in the hot months of April, May, and June will be very, very hot. Travel in July-September and January-March to beat the heat, the rains (October-December) and in time to catch the festivals of Pongal (January), classical Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam (January), and perhaps Dussehra (September).

Where do I Stay?

India’s fourth largest city and the south’s bustling metro has a range of accommodation that extends from the best of 5 star luxury to spick and span clean tourist hostels and dormitories. The top end hotels provide top of the line service and like their kin in the rest of the world come business, pleasure and leisure enabled; you will find good multi-cuisine restaurants, bars, swimming pools and luxury suites. Mid-range and  budget accommodation too is safe and a lapse in standards of cleanliness would be a rare exception.

The government has even lined up private homes for a slice of life with the locals.
