The medical team at the Government Royapettah Hospital compared the fluids inside Varadarajan’s body with samples of water collected from the Porur lake, where it was alleged that he drowned.

The tests showed that there were no toxins in the body, the official police release said.

There were no strangulation marks on his neck and the stomach was full of water, the police said quoting the postmortem report.

City Police on Monday confirmed the death of CPM leader W R Varadarajan by matching fingerprints, in addition to a positive identification by the leader’s wife on Sunday. Varadarajan’s body was found in a lake in Porur on February 13, two days after he disappeared from his home.

“The identity of the body has been confirmed. The fingerprints samples have tallied,’’ said ACP (Law and Order) Shakeel Akhtar.

He said the results of the DNA tests were awaited. A postmortem was conducted and the report would be available in a few days, Shakeel added.
